A fantastic opportunity has arisen with our client for an experienced Design Manager to lead high-impact projects in the data centre and high-tech infrastructure sector. This role combines technical leadership, project oversight, and team building, supporting a growing portfolio of cutting-edge projects across the UK and Europe.

You will lead multidisciplinary design teams, manage stakeholder relationships, oversee resource coordination, and ensure project delivery meets high-quality standards. The position offers hybrid working from a London-based office and is ideal for someone ready to take ownership of large-scale project environments.

Team Building

  • Rebuild and shape a high-performing design team aligned to project and business goals
  • Set professional standards across delivery, team performance, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Address performance issues constructively and proactively.
  • Implement internal tools to support delivery processes and reporting.

Project Delivery

  • Oversee design workstreams across multiple complex projects, ensuring budget, scope, and schedule alignment.
  • Translate project briefs into structured design phases (e.g., masterplan, 60%, 80%, 100%).
  • Produce detailed project reports and manage risk and performance frameworks.
  • Act as primary liaison on major projects; delegate oversight of smaller works to relevant leads.

Client & Business Development

  • Build strong relationships with clients, collaborating on project-specific requirements and future opportunities.
  • Identify ways to grow existing accounts through consistent delivery and proactive client engagement.
  • Support the preparation of fee proposals and contribute to business development activities.

Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure delivery aligns with internal project and quality management standards.
  • Oversee technical and QA/QC review processes
  • Contribute to the ongoing refinement of design and delivery procedures for operational efficiency.

External Collaboration

  • Lead virtual design teams across time zones, ensuring coordinated output..
  • Manage external consultants from a delivery and commercial standpoint
  • Support operational teams with invoice approvals, resource planning, and technical documentation.

  • β€’ Strong background in design/project management within data centres, high-tech, or critical infrastructure.
  • β€’ Proven leadership experience across multidisciplinary teams and large-scale projects.
  • β€’ Proficient in risk management, budgeting, and delivering projects to tight timelines.
  • β€’ Knowledge of design methodologies, standards, and tools including CAD, BIM, and rendering platforms.
  • β€’ Excellent written and verbal communication skills; confident with international collaboration..
  • β€’ Ability to mentor and lead a dynamic design team..

  • β€’ BEng or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline.
